ChatGPT in Macau: blocked by region, same as Hong Kong

OpenAI's list excludes Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China. On a local Macau connection you will typically get an unsupported-country message, and a page that loads is not the same as a service you can use. For Plus, payment risk checks compare card country, IP location and billing address, and a mismatch often leads to a decline. The details are the same as for Hong Kong: see Can you use ChatGPT in Hong Kong?

Can you use Claude and Claude Code in Macau?

Anthropic's list does not include Macau either. The Claude website, mobile apps, Claude Code and the API all follow the same list. The usual problems are a rejected region or phone number at sign-up, a region-unavailable message after login, and Claude Code failing to authorize. The fix is to have your exit in a supported region, with a consistent IP type and DNS exit.

Gemini in Macau: supported, so why does it suddenly stop?

Gemini is the exception. Google's published list for the Gemini web app includes Macau (and Hong Kong). So if you see 'Gemini isn't supported in your country', or it worked before and suddenly doesn't, Macau usually isn't the problem. More often it is one of these:

Check in this order: try once on your local connection with any proxy off, then check your account's associated country, then look at your IP location.

Gemini suddenly stopped? Check in this orderGoogle's published list for the Gemini web app includes Macau (and Hong Kong), so if Gemini suddenly stops working, Macau usually isn't the problem. Check in this order: first, try once on your local connection with any proxy off, since a proxy may be exiting in an unsupported region; second, check the country associated with your Google Account, which can differ from where you are now; third, look at your IP location, because an IP database may place your IP somewhere else. Also keep in mind: work and school Google Workspace accounts need an administrator to turn Gemini on, some features have age requirements, and the free version working does not mean every paid plan or new feature is available at the same time. Codex in Macau

Codex, including the Codex CLI and web version, is an OpenAI product, so Macau is not on the list. Developers usually hit one of two problems: the CLI getting stuck at sign-in, or frequent 'Reconnecting' while it runs. The first is usually the region; the second is usually the network path. Work out which one you have before changing anything.

Three steps for stable use in Macau

  1. Run the free AI IP test to see your current exit region and IP type;
  2. For ChatGPT, Claude, Codex and Claude Code: your exit needs to be in a supported region, ideally a home broadband IP, with DNS exiting in the same region;
  3. For Gemini: go through the account checks above first; most of the time you don't need to change your network.

Voguesly (易联) provides US home broadband exits on carriers such as AT&T and Verizon, usable from Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China, with a ¥3.9 (≈ US$0.58, charged in CNY) trial pack to start. Results still depend on your account, device and each platform's policies.
