Can You Use ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini in Taiwan? Yes, So Why Do Verification Checks and Bans Happen?

Yes. Taiwan is on the official supported lists of OpenAI, Anthropic and Google (checked 1 October 2026), so ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini work directly on a local Taiwan connection. The exception is new services such as Meta's Muse, which for now is open only in the US and Canada. If you are in Taiwan and still get repeated verification, a suspended account or a declined payment, the cause is usually not your region but a mismatch between your exit IP, your account and your payment details.

In short
  • ChatGPT, Codex, Claude, Claude Code and Gemini all list Taiwan as supported (checked 1 October 2026). Hong Kong and Macau are not on the OpenAI or Anthropic lists.
  • On a local Taiwan connection you generally don't need any extra tools for these.
  • Verification loops, bans and declined payments usually come from a proxy, a datacenter IP exit, DNS and IP in different regions, an exit that keeps changing, or card country, IP and billing address that don't match.
  • Muse is open only in the US and Canada for now. That is where Taiwan really does get blocked by region.

ChatGPT and Codex (OpenAI): Taiwan yes, Hong Kong and Macau no. Claude and Claude Code (Anthropic): Taiwan yes, Hong Kong and Macau no. Gemini (Google): yes in all three. Muse (Meta): open only in the US and Canada for now, so not yet in any of the three. Taiwan is on the OpenAI, Anthropic and Google lists, so verification and bans there are usually not a region problem. Lists change; the official pages take precedence. Codex / OpenAI APIOpenAIYesSame list as ChatGPT; frequent reconnects are usually a network path issue
Claude (web / app)AnthropicYesRegion is fine; repeated verification is usually about IP type, DNS or an exit that keeps changing

Gemini (app / web)GoogleYesRegion errors usually trace back to your Google Account's country or account type
MuseMetaNo (US and Canada only for now)Not-yet-available message, or sent to the waitlist

Based on the public supported-region pages of OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, each checked on 1 October 2026. For comparison: Hong Kong and Macau are on neither the OpenAI nor the Anthropic list; Gemini supports all three; and Muse is not yet open in any of them. These lists change, so the official pages always take precedence.

Can you use ChatGPT directly in Taiwan?

Yes. OpenAI's supported countries list includes Taiwan, and the ChatGPT website and app, Codex (including the Codex CLI) and the OpenAI API all follow it. Signing up and logging in on a local Taiwan connection normally needs nothing extra.

The thing to watch is an exit that isn't in Taiwan. Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China are not on OpenAI's list, so if a proxy or VPN sends your traffic out through one of them, you'll get an unsupported-region message. OpenAI's page also says that using its services outside the listed countries may get an account blocked or suspended.

If a Plus payment is declined, check that card country, IP location and billing address match, because payment risk checks compare all three. If Codex keeps showing 'Reconnecting' while it runs, that is usually the network path; see how to troubleshoot Codex Reconnecting (Chinese).

Why does Claude keep asking for verification, or suspend accounts, in Taiwan?

Short answer: not because of the region. Anthropic's supported regions page lists Taiwan for both Claude.ai and the commercial API, and Claude Code follows the same list. But Anthropic looks at more than where you are. It looks at the whole environment: the region and type of your exit IP, where your DNS resolves, where the account was registered, and your payment details. With the region right and the rest out of line, you can still be verified or limited.

Five situations we see most often:

Your setupWhat usually happensWhat to do first
A proxy is on and exits in Hong Kong or another unsupported regionRegion-not-supported messageCheck your current exit; try once on your local Taiwan connection
Your exit is a datacenter IP (cloud server, VPS, typical proxy-service node)The IP type carries a high risk score; repeated verificationCheck whether the IP is residential or datacenter
DNS exit and IP are in different regionsThe mismatch triggers checks tooMake sure DNS exits in the same region as the IP
Your exit region keeps jumping, or contradicts where the account was registeredLooks like a stolen or misused account; more verification or temporary limitsStay on one network environment
Card country, IP and billing address don't matchSubscription payment declinedLine up all three

The jumping exit is the one people miss. Local Taiwan connection today, a US node tomorrow, a datacenter exit the day after: the system sees your source keep changing and adds verification. Since Taiwan is already supported, the steadiest setup is usually just your local connection, with no proxy turned on for Claude.

Taiwan is supported, so why the checks and bans? The region is not the issue: Taiwan is on the OpenAI, Anthropic and Google lists. Five places things still commonly go wrong. One: a proxy is on and the exit lands in Hong Kong or another unsupported region, which gives a region error, and OpenAI says use outside its listed countries may get an account blocked or suspended. Two: the exit is a datacenter IP (cloud server, VPS), whose IP type carries a high risk score and leads to repeated verification. Three: the DNS exit and the IP are in different regions, and that mismatch triggers checks too. Four: the exit region keeps jumping or contradicts where the account was registered, which looks like a stolen or misused account and brings more verification or temporary limits. Five: card country, IP and billing address don't match, so the subscription payment is declined. Rule of thumb: keep your exit, account and payment in one region and keep it stable. These are common causes, not official rules. Taiwan is supported, so why the checks and bans? Region: Taiwan is on all 3 lists Not the issue Five places things still go wrong Proxy on, exit in an unsupported region → Region error; OpenAI says it may suspend Datacenter IP exit (cloud server, VPS) → High-risk IP type, repeated verification DNS exit and IP in different regions → The mismatch triggers checks too Exit keeps jumping, or contradicts sign-up → Looks like misuse: more checks or limits Card country, IP, billing address differ → Subscription payment declined Rule of thumb: exit, account and payment in one region, and keep it stable These are common causes, not official rules.
The region is fine; checks and bans usually come from these five things

These are the common causes we have collected in our Hong Kong and Macau guides, not rules published by the platforms. If an account is actually suspended, go by the reason in the platform's notice.

Does Gemini work in Taiwan?

Yes. Google's Gemini app availability list includes Taiwan, as well as Hong Kong and Macau. So if you are in Taiwan and see 'Gemini isn't supported in your country', Taiwan usually isn't the problem. It is more often one of these:

Check in this order: try once on your local connection with any proxy off, then check your Google Account's country, then look at your IP location.

Why doesn't Muse work in Taiwan?

Because Muse is open only in the US and Canada for now, and Taiwan isn't one of them. It's the opposite of the services above: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini support Taiwan and trip up on details, while Muse simply isn't open in Taiwan yet.

Muse is the personal AI agent Meta launched on 8 September 2026. Its App Store listing is only in the US and Canada, and its terms of service say 'US or Canada'. Sign up from Taiwan and you'll usually be told it isn't available in your country or region yet, or be put on the waitlist. Users report that the deciding factor is the type of exit IP: a datacenter IP goes to the waitlist even if it is in the US, while a US or Canadian residential IP gets through. Meta hasn't published its rules. Full steps are in our Muse sign-up guide (Chinese).

One caveat: Muse's terms require users to be in a region where it is open. After signing up, keep to one network environment and avoid hopping between exits in different countries.

Hit a problem? Check these three things first

If you are in Taiwan and still get verification prompts, region errors or declined payments, go through these in order:

  1. Check your exit region and IP type. Turn off any proxy and try once on your local network, or open the AI IP test to see which region your exit is in and whether it is a residential or datacenter IP.
  2. Make sure DNS exits in the same region as the IP. An IP in a supported region with DNS somewhere else is a mismatch that triggers checks too.
  3. Line up your account and payment regions. The account's sign-up region, your Google Account's country, your card country and billing address should all match your exit.

For ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini in Taiwan, your local connection is usually all you need. A US residential exit only matters for services like Muse that are open just in the US and Canada. Voguesly (易联) provides US home broadband exits on carriers such as AT&T and Verizon, usable from Taiwan, with a trial pack to start. Results still depend on your account, device and each platform's policies.

FAQ

Is ChatGPT available in Taiwan?

Yes. OpenAI's supported countries list includes Taiwan (checked 1 October 2026), so you can sign up and use it on a local Taiwan connection. Codex and the OpenAI API follow the same list.

Can I use Claude and Claude Code in Taiwan?

Yes. Anthropic's supported regions page lists Taiwan for both Claude.ai and the commercial API, and Claude Code follows the same list.

Why does Claude keep asking me to verify in Taiwan?

The region itself is fine. Common causes are a proxy exiting in an unsupported region or on a datacenter IP, DNS and IP in different regions, or an exit region that keeps changing. Try once on your local connection with any proxy off.

Does Gemini work in Taiwan?

Yes. Google's Gemini app availability list includes Taiwan. If you see a region error, the usual cause is the country associated with your Google Account, the account type, or an exit IP that disagrees with your account region.

Can I use Muse in Taiwan?

Not yet. Muse is open only in the US and Canada, and Taiwan is not one of them. Users report that sign-up mainly depends on whether your exit is a US or Canadian residential IP.
